Julia Lorimer, C-IAYT, e-RYT-500, Expert Yoga Teacher, Pain Relief Specialist, Innovator in Iyengar Yoga, Vedanta and Sanskrit Teacher, and Vedic Meditation and Chanting Teacher.  

Julia has helped people manage their chronic pain for more than three decades by helping them overcome stiffness, weakness, and poor posture habits to regain good posture and live pain-free.

Julia Lorimer is one of the few women in history to undertake an 11-year study of traditional Vedanta. Her lineage, passed to her by Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati, was previously offered only to select Indian men of the Brahman priest class. Swamiji broke with tradition by taking women and Westerners under his wing; Julia was among a limited number of students he taught extensively. She spent over a decade studying closely with Swamiji in the ancient temple culture of India. 

Through a systematic study of Sanskrit, Vedic chanting, and Vedanta scriptures, she was taught how to know the Atman, the self of all, and Brahman, the Ultimate Reality, and teach others in a structured way from the original Sanskrit texts. Traditional sources in India consider the Vedanta spiritual texts that Julia studied to be the original source teachings for the ancient Vedic spiritual culture of India, including yoga philosophy. 

This unprecedented training, combined with 30 years of direct study with the BKS Iyengar family and Senior Iyengar Teachers Manouso Manos and Ramanand Patel, gives Julia a unique depth in the yoga world.

Her discipleship with Swamiji and scholarly study of the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads brought about a profound psychological transformation that reshaped her values and ethics. Suffused with a desire to serve, she teaches numerous courses to transform the individual. To name a few: Yoga: Posture and Pain Remedy, Yoga Series for Healing Back and Neck Pain, Vedic Yoga- A Way of Life for Gaining Wisdom, and The 5 Levels of Healing the Mind and Body. Having sustained two spinal injuries and endured debilitating pain for many years, Julia received medical yoga prescriptions from BKS Iyengar, his daughter Gita, and son Prashant. Julia used these prescriptions and her deep understanding of anatomy to heal her spine and develop a unique approach to resolving chronic back pain. A veteran yoga therapist with decades in private practice, Julia assists her clients to overcome physical, mental, and emotional obstacles using hands-on adjustments in restorative and therapeutic yoga postures in her private yoga studio called Marin Yoga Therapeutics and in her yoga classes, workshops, and retreats. As a yoga teacher, Julia emphasizes protecting your peace of mind at all times through self-care practices that make up a body-mind-spirit lifestyle. In her work, she provides clients and students with a safe environment for personal reflection, which fosters growing ease with and acceptance of oneself at all levels.
