Julia Lorimer
Julia Lorimer, C-IAYT, e-RYT-500, Expert Yoga Teacher, Pain Relief Specialist, Innovator in Iyengar Yoga, Vedanta and Sanskrit Teacher, and Vedic Meditation and Chanting Teacher. Julia has helped people to manage their chronic pain for more than three decades, by helping them to overcome stiffness, weakness and poor posture habits in order to regain good posture and to live pain free.
Julia Lorimer is one of the first women in history to undertake a 12-year study of traditional Vedanta. Her lineage passed to her by Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati, was previously offered only to select Indian men of the Brahman priest class. Swamiji broke with tradition by taking women and westerners under his wing; Julia was among a few hundred students he taught extensively. She spent over a decade studying closely with Swamiji in the ancient temple culture of India. Through a systematic study of Sanskrit, Vedic chanting, and Vedanta scriptures, she was taught how to know the Ultimate Reality and teach others in a structured way from the original texts. This unprecedented training, combined with 30 years of direct study with the BKS Iyengar family and Senior Iyengar Teachers Manouso Manos and Ramanand Patel, gives Julia unique depth in the yoga world.
Julia’s laugh is simultaneously playful and soul-provoking, her gaze both piercing and reassuring. Her discipleship with Swamiji and scholarly study of the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads brought about a profound psychological transformation that reshaped her values and ethics. Suffused with a desire to serve, she teaches numerous courses for transforming the individual. To name a few: Yoga: Posture and Pain Remedy, Yoga Series for Healing Back and Neck Pain, Vedic Yoga- A Way of Life for Gaining Wisdom, and The 5 Levels of Healing the Mind and Body. Benefits include improved physical function, increased vital energy reserves, resolution of longstanding emotional conflicts, clearer thinking, a renewed ability to take decisive action, and a softening of the heart toward oneself and others.
Having sustained two spinal injuries and endured debilitating pain for many years, Julia received medical yoga prescriptions from BKS Iyengar and his daughter Gita. Julia used this prescription as well as her own deep understanding of anatomy to heal her spine and develop a unique approach to resolving chronic back pain. A veteran yoga therapist with decades in private practice, Julia assists her clients to overcome physical, mental, and emotional obstacles using hands-on adjustments in restorative and therapeutic yoga postures in her private yoga studio called Marin Yoga Therapeutics and in her yoga classes, workshops, and retreats. In all of her work, she provides clients and students a safe environment for all levels of personal reflection toward the higher aim of realizing their true nature.
I look forward to being of assistance in your healing process.
