Julia Lorimer is a Yoga Therapist, Pain Relief Specialist, Guided Meditation Teacher, Life Coach and a Sanskrit and Vedanta scholar. In her work, she has been helping people manage their chronic pain for more than three decades. She resumed her full time private practice in pain relief in San Rafael three years ago following a twelve year study period spent primarily in India. She formed Marin Yoga Therapeutics as the umbrella organization offering her many programs. She is certified as a C-IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist and an e-RYT 500 Registered Yoga Teacher and Yoga Teacher Trainer.
Julia developed unique chronic pain management programs she calls Meta-Yoga where 5 levels of healing occur in each person. These programs address the entire mind and body relationship to improve one’s quality of life as well as one’s relationship to oneself and the world. The 5 levels start with physical health and then address increasing vital energy reserves, resolving conflicted emotions, thinking clearly and decisively, and concluding with discovering kindness in your heart.
In Meta-Yoga posture is addressed as a primary and missing piece which stabilizes health of body and mind. Improved posture can be translated 24/7 to graceful, balanced movement and gait walking with ease. From this solid physical foundation, emotions are addressed and cleared as needed, thinking is looked at objectively and freed from the constraints of chronic tension and pain, and an altered life is created by transforming one’s life challenges into whole-hearted acceptance of their lot. The outer expression of these levels of healing and acceptance of life’s challenges is a growing kindness in your heart towards yourself and others. As a result of working with Julia, you will discover over time what it means to be healed, whole and complete within yourself.
Julia studied Iyengar yoga therapeutics for three decades specializing in restorative yoga and pain management. Her experience included a decade of studies with the Iyengar family in India, as well as with renowned Senior Iyengar yoga teachers abroad and in America, including Manouso Manos and Ramanand Patel. Julia initiated and ran Paul St. John’s Neuro-Musculo Therapy (NMT) seminars in the 1980’s on the West Coast. Health professionals were taught hands-on pain management seminars in tandem with Janet Travell M.D.’s Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction research. In 2001-2002 Julia served on the panel of the first U.C.S.F. Medical Research program on yoga and lower back pain.
Julia is available in private practice in San Rafael, as well as local classes and retreats in the Bay Area. She also teaches an annual retreat in back care yoga, meditation and vedanta at the Swami Dayananda ashram in Saylorsburg, PA. >arshavidya.org<
